Lung cancer takes the lives of more women than any other cancer. In 2007, in the same week she set an age-group record in a 15K, Barb Murphy was diagnosed with non-smoker’s lung cancer. She fought it for six years before she passed away in 2013. In 2014, Tom Murphy created Barb’s Beer – along with the Barb’s Beer Foundation, a 501c3 charity – to raise funds to help find a cure for the disease which is on the rise, especially among women.
See barbsbeer.org for details.
Tom is contributing a portion of proceeds from “THE ANNIVERSARY BOX” to the Barb’s Beer Foundation, to expand the campaign.
The Barb’s Beer Foundation enlists restaurant and taverns to put Barb’s Beer on tap – and the Foundation uses funds generated through the sales to make a contribution to its lung cancer partners, led by cancerGRACE.org, a charity founded by Dr. Howard West, Barb’s oncologist, and one of the country’s leading experts working for a cure.
In addition, the Barb’s Beer Foundation conducts a 5K race series, Runner in Red 5K – which draws its name from another of Tom’s novels – Runner in Red, a Boston Marathon mystery.
The race series also supports the Barb’s Beer Foundation and the cure lung cancer campaign.
